Woah. I've been a total slacker with this whole "I'm gonna keep this updated" thing. So I, uh, I guess I kind of lied a bit with that, huh? Sorry 'bout that. I'm not gonna say I'm gonna keep this updated right now either though, because I'm not.

I'm working on a couple of new pieces right now and when I'm finished with them I plan on redoing my site with a new blog and everything. I want to make something really simple and all in one so I'm gonna have a go with the whole wordpress thing and see what I can do.

In the meantime if you want to stay updated you can check out my slightly-more-frequently updated twitter or my flickr.

So again its been way too long since my last update. I've been kind of slacking lately art-wise. A little over a month and a half ago I finally got a job and getting the balance between that and making stuff was a little tough. I think I'm getting closer now though so I should be getting more done soon.

I have started working on a new guy though. This is a head I had been working on and I molded and casted it yesterday. This guy is going to be my first attempt at making a puppet. Just a simple rod puppet, pretty much. I'm excited about it. I've wanted to make a puppet for a good while now.

I need to start updating this more.

The three-person show at Rivet is up for a few more days. You can see it here.

I'm also going to have this piece in the "Scientific Evolution" show at Distinction Gallery. The show opening is August 8th from 6-11pm. I'm really happy with this guy. I even made the shadowbox for him that I think came out pretty nice for a first attempt at making one.

Three person show that I'm a part of opening this weekend at Rivet Gallery. Opening is on Saturday the 4th from 7 - 10 pm.

I was really hoping to make it out for the opening but, unfortunately, it's not going to happen. Hopefully someone will take some pictures so I can see everything set up together.

Last night I finished up the second of two commissions I had been working on. I'm really happy with how they turned out. I keep trying to push my sculpting and painting with each one. I want to start pushing the clothing even further now too. These guys are both around 13.5" - 14" tall.

These two guys have taken me a good long time, but I've finally finished them. Like every other guy, I tried to make them the best I could and I'm happy with the outcome. I spent a lot of time dyeing fabric and roughing it up to get the right look and texture with these guys. Then I spent even more time on clothing details like piecing the purpleish hood together and sewing around the edges of both hoods. They are available on my etsy.

Spectrum

Just finished printing out images and getting everything ready to send out for the Spectrum book competition. I've been reading them for years and finally feel like I have something decent enough to try and send in. Here's hoping I have some kind of slight chance of getting one of my guys in. That would be so awesome.

The two guys that I have been working on are coming along. Painting should be finished soon and then its on to making clothes. Painting should be done by mid next week at the latest. Every time I get to the painting stage I think to myself "Theres gotta be something better to use than oils. They take so long." And every time I pull out some acrylics or my airbrush and give them another try. Then I remember why I use oils. They might take longer, especially waiting for the thin layers to dry, but the way they feel and the way they come out looking makes it worth it. I figure I'd rather spend more time and make something the best I can than to do it quicker and have it not look as good.

Didn't get much of anything done over the whole Christmas/New Years time, but I seem to have gotten back on track. Spent all day sewing and the two guys I've been working on are all skinned up now and ready to start painting.

Three new figures

I just finished up this group of figures last night. I am really excited with the way these three came out. I really tried to push the detailing in the painting and clothing with these and think it totally paid off. I'm really happy with the results.

Stuff I used to do.

Writing the about section of my site started to make me think of all the stuff I've done before sculpting. I thought it'd be fun to post it up here to show.

So I started off freshman year as a photo major and my photo career peaked first semester. I took images of my family members faces and one outfit from each of them and switched around bodies, faces and clothes. I also used a flashlight to light them in a darkened room with the shutter held open. This is my mom with my dads clothes with my youngest brothers face.

In these ones I took facial features and shoved them under some stockings over her face to make these weird looking faces.

Two prints I made from a collagraph plate.

This is where I stopped doing photo pretty much. I did five big 2' x 4' panels on wood of each of my family members playing an instrument. Then I attached to the back some circuit bent toys that had buttons and knobs sticking through so I could play them. I had a video of myself playing it but lost it.

This is a video I made from taking images from a tv I opened and circuit bent then put together in after effects.

This is a weird analog noise synth thing I made when I was teaching myself electronics.

This was a stuffed pink thing I made and stuffed a wireless camera into. The camera sent video to my computer into a program I made in max/msp/jitter that took colors and used them to color a video pattern that it was generating.

And now I'm sculpting. What fun!
